Anthropic Restart Mythos 5 AI Release After US Clearance
According to Anthropic, the United States government has cleared it to grant access to its highly powerful artificial intelligence model Mythos 5 to a handful of chosen organisations within the United States. This comes following the reversal of the previous decision to deny access due to national security reasons.
Over 100 firms and organisations, some even big names among Fortune 500 firms, will have access to Mythos 5. The government was worried about advanced AI models being used by countries such as China and Russia for cyber attacks or intelligence operations.
Previously, Anthropic had suspended access to its AI models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, due to an export control directive from the government. The selection of firms that will be allowed access to the AI model has been met with criticism. It has been claimed that there is a lack of transparency in the selection of the companies. The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, had also expressed his doubt regarding the government’s selection of customers for the advanced AI models.
Experts have cautioned that the deployment of such AI systems by certain individuals may increase the scale and speed of cyberattacks.
The US government stated that Anthropic has succeeded in minimizing the risk of safety threats in its AI systems. Companies selected by the government would be able to utilize Mythos 5 without any additional export licenses. It is likely that the government will soon permit Anthropic to launch Fable 5, but an exact launch date is not yet known.
This is because recently there has been the introduction of new regulations in the United States where companies dealing with AI are required to present their products for government review before they can be launched.
