The newest generation of AI algorithms from OpenAI named GPT-5.6 is now available, together with ChatGPT Work, which is a workspace that can help people perform various professional tasks. These tasks include writing code, conducting research, writing articles, building websites, and making presentations.
It is believed that this step is the most significant one towards turning ChatGPT into a full-fledged productivity tool and not just an ordinary chatbot. GPT-5.6 exists in three flavors: Sol, Terra, and Luna. Each of these AI models has different speeds, performance and costs associated with them.
The new GPTs have superior capabilities in terms of reasoning, coding, solving scientific problems, and AI agents. Also, it is noteworthy that GPT-5.6 will be used in Microsoft 365 Copilot.With the ChatGPT Work package, people will be able to generate reports, analyze data, code, build websites, automate processes, and create presentations all within one app without having to use other programs to perform those actions.
ChatGPT integrates with popular business applications such as Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and CRM software, thus facilitating collaboration among the team members. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Work utilizes the same security and management capabilities as ChatGPT Enterprise.
Furthermore, OpenAI has introduced adjustable reasoning levels for the GPT-5.6 version. Thus, users will be able to decide whether they need faster generation or better reasoning depending on their needs. There is also an Ultra level of reasoning that is currently available to Pro and Enterprise customers.
The new version of GPT-5.6 will have three models:
Sol – the most capable and high-end model.
Terra – the second model which provides good performance at a lower cost.
Luna – the fastest and most economical model.
The deployment of GPT-5.6 is taking place on the platforms of ChatGPT, Codex, and OpenAI API. Further, Sol will be available to Pro, Business, and Enterprise users while Terra will be made available to Free and Go users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. The developers will have access to all three models in the API, along with some new capabilities like multi-agent and tool calling.
As per Reuters, OpenAI was compelled to delay the release of GPT-5.6 due to discussions about cybersecurity and national security with the US government. With GPT-5.6 and ChatGPT Work, OpenAI plans to offer businesses AI tools that could assist in research, coding, document generation, and workflow automation.
