In collaboration with hardware firm Work Louder, OpenAI has announced its first hardware gadget. The device is called Codex Micro, and it is a programmable mechanical macropad intended for its AI coding assistant, Codex. The device costs $230, and comes ahead of time as Codex is about to reach its nine million user base around the world.
The Codex Micro consists of six Agent Keys which show the status of AI agents by showing different colors. The white light represents an idle agent, while the blue light indicates that the agent is working on a task. Green color signifies that the task is done, whereas the red light shows that there is an error. Clicking any Agent Key will select it, while double-clicking will bring it to focus.
These six Agent Keys can be programmed by utilizing the Input configuration tool of Work Louder. The user can assign these Agent Keys for different purposes like assigning them for pinned Codex tasks, recent tasks, tasks that need attention or any particular AI agent. Along with these six Agent Keys, it consists of six programmable keys for various coding purposes like accepting and rejecting changes in codes.The edge lights up with LED when Codex is listening, providing users with an obvious indication that the mic is activated. The keyboard also comes with a joystick and a knob that users can customize to suit their needs.
All keys on the Codex Micro are fully customizable and users can swap the keycaps depending on their needs. The package comes with 32 additional keycaps, provides options for both silent and clicky switches, and uses USB-C and Bluetooth technology.
The Codex Micro is a special edition keyboard that was created by a collaboration of OpenAI and Work Louder. Despite the fact that it is based on Creator Micro 2 by Work Louder, it comes with several specific additions of Codex Micro.
