With rumors swirling that it is preparing for an IPO, OpenAI seems to be recruiting another big name to join its fold. As part of its team, the company is welcoming Noam Shazeer, who served as Google’s Vice President of Engineering and co-lead of Gemini AI models.
While many tech giants are vying to hire some of the top AI talents and build better AI models, Shazeer announced through X that he had decided to leave Google to join OpenAI and work alongside their great team under Sam Altman’s leadership.
Less than two years since the tech giant is said to have offered him around $2.7 billion to join their ranks, the AI expert will be leaving the company, but not before having worked with one of the most talented teams within Character.AI, where he was CEO.
On his way out of Google, Shazeer acknowledged how hard it was to make such a decision and how much he enjoyed working there with such a great team.
