Propagandists from China attempted to exploit OpenAI's primary chatbot technology to generate dissent against the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump and to exert their influence over the U.S. debate on the topic of data centers and AI, according to a report recently released by OpenAI.
According to OpenAI, these attempts were made sometime in late 2025 and early 2026. But the company determined that the actions had been largely unsuccessful. Through the report, one can see the growing trend of influence operations through AI-based technologies — even campaigns aimed at AI companies.A spokesperson from the Chinese embassy in Washington stated that it was unaware of OpenAI's research but categorically rejected the allegations leveled against China. Additionally, China was working towards ensuring that its use of AI would be for a beneficial purpose.
As can be seen from the current scenario, it is very important to have robust digital systems as well as ERP features within an organization to combat such issues successfully.
